Nehru Zoological Park:

This is one of the biggest Zoological Parks in Asia. It spreads over 300 acres. Nearly 250 varieties of animals and birds are seen here. In total the number of the animals and birds area as many as 2500. They are kept and taken care of in their natural environment though created artificially. This is the specialty of the Zoo.

The interesting attraction in this Zoo is “The Lion Safari”. The tigers and leopards are left free in the Zoo. The visitors who want to see them are taken to their natural habitat in a closed van.

Natural history museum is another interesting place where the animals in prehistoric age are built with cement and plaster of paris. The artificial animals are in a giant size. Children have a small train to go around the Zoo. Some birds move in the night times. They are also caged here.

The safari of butterflies:

Since February 11th an additional feature added to this Zoo. That is the safari of Butterflies. In the developed countries we see such safaris. But in India it is the first. In those countries the safaris are arranged in air -conditioned room. Here in Hyderabad they are in their natural atmosphere. Sounds interesting. The nature of the butterflies is that they leave their smell on some trees.  By doing so they attract other flies. Wherever we plant such trees butterflies gather there.

So the officials of Hyderabad Zoo planted such trees, which attract butterflies. This year the trees are grown and naturally the butterflies gathered here.

In the world there are as many as 28 varieties of butterflies. Hyderabad Zoo has 18 out of them. They are plain tiger, common crow, red pirated, common jejechee, common leopard, buster, painted lady, blue tiger, yellow fency, blue fency and evening glory. we can watch them from 9.30 A.M. to 10.30 A.M. again in the evening from 4.00P.M. to 6.00 P.M,.

All these years the visitors watched only tigers, lions, bears and other animals. From 11th of February 2001 they are seeing the beauty of these butterflies. In one room the authorities arranged a documentary where various stages of the butterflies are explained. They have arranged a guide also to the tourists.
