Osmania University Alumni meet at ATA Conference, Los Angeles on July 2nd.

 

About 100 Osmania alumni met at the American Telugu Association (ATA) Conference at Los Angeles and discussed about the alma mater and alumni activities.

 

At the outset, Ravi Mayreddy welcomed the alumni participants for their interest to participate in the activities. Ravi requested Harinath Medi, senior alumni, President of OU Engg College in 1967, to preside over the meeting.

 

Harinath invited our Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Suleman Siddiqi, and Prof. Venu Gopal Reddy, Special Officer to coordinate Alumni activities, who came from India to meet NRI alumni at the ATA Conference.

 

Prof. Siddiqi explained the current initiatives to help students to excel academically. University is setting up language lab in every college so that students will develop good English and communication skills. University is creating a finest “Central Facility for Students”, where they will have lounge, library, reading, training, seminar and other facilities that will promote multi-facet development of students. He appealed alumni to visit Campus and provide their guidance and advice for the new initiatives. He requested the alumni who excelled in the technology to bring their rich expertise to their alma mater.

 

Later, Ravi Mayreddy narrated the strong bond that alumni have with University. Osmania University is the only hope for rural kids, who can not afford “pricy” education,  to get education and become good citizens. He proposed some activities that University should undertake with the help of alumni. Alumni proposed to organize “Motivational /Inspirational Talks” in Campus to develop  “socially conscious and responsible” citizens. We should invite nationally and internationally renowned speakers to Campus and let them share their experiences with students. It gives knowledge, wisdom, leadership and motivation to students. It is also proposed to create “Alumni Education Fund” to support poor and bright students education. All hostels should have internet facility so that students will experience the global knowledge through internet. Another proposal is – “Visit Campus” project. University should invite and facilitate the visit of distinguished alumni to campus and take their inputs proactively for the University development.

 

Later many alumni participated in the discussion and extended their support. Dr Pailla Malla Reddy and Dr. Sathya Narayana Reddy announced one lakh contribution to alumni activity. K Madhusudan Reddy, Sharath Vemula, Venkat Maroju, Bhupathy Suppala, Karunakar, Sudhakar Vidiyala declared contribution of $1000 each. Dr Bal Reddy, Scientist at Novartis announced instituting a Fellowship/Scholarship for a needy student.

 

Later, alumni had ” Question and Answer” session with Vice Chancellor. It is also felt that alumni should bring more people into activity and strengthen the alumni.

 

The other alumni  were present in the meeting were: Hanmanth Reddy, Dharma Reddy, Dr. Gunda Reddy, Sudhakar, Indrasen, Buchanna, Partha Sarathi Reddy etc.
