Birla Mandir:

Birla is one of the richest families in India. They have a trust by name Hindustan Charity Trust. Under the aegis of this they constructed a temple for Lord Venkateswara on the famous Kala pahad. From there one can see Hussainsagar and the other surroundings.

They spent nearly 5 million rupees for the construction. 1000 tons of marble is used in the construction. It was imported specially from Makarana, a place in Rajashthan. The main temple is constructed in the style of Khajuraho. The galigopura and the Garudalaya are constructed in the southern style. The workers who participated in the construction are the descendants of the workers who constructed Tajmahal.

The southern architects sculptured the Moola virat of the Swamy. The sanctum sanctorum is the replica of Lord Venkateswara’s sanctum sanctorum of Tirupati. The black granite used for the idol is imported from Phirnagipuram of Guntur District. The height of the moolavirat is 9.5 feet and it weighs 8 tons. In the night times, especially on full moon day it twinkles in green color and can be seen from every nook and corner of the city as it is constructed on a hillock.
